Directus VS Ghost

The backend is powered by Directus - a data platform that is a hybrid of BaaS and CMS. It pairs up with most SQL databases.

Directus is an open data platform built to serve as a headless CMS, API, or Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) for other applications. It is designed to make data accessible to people of all technical levels and to make it easy to build data-centric applications. Directus is extensible and can be integrated with many different frontend technologies to create stable, well-structured development and user experiences.

As of April 2024, Directus' GitHub repository has accumulated 25.2k stars and 3.5k forks, showcasing its active community. The project has secured $8+ million in funding, further fueling its growth and development.

I don't know, it's something I've wanted many times.

Recently I discovered https://directus.io/ which comes pretty close and it's open source.

I using Directus CMS on several projects with pretty complicated flows, api extensions etc. probably there will be some work if you move. I liked Directus is because it's standard SQL I can always move my DB and documents to another solution. I don't use their hosted solution but they have an unlimited offering for $100 / month.

Ghost CMS makes it fairly easy to link your blog to your own domain and set up SSL. The ghost setup command in ghost-cli basically does it for you. However, for me it didn't automatically set up a www subdomain. So I could access, say, https://https://myblog.lol, but https://www.myblog.lol would result in a 502. I was thinking of just adding a CNAME or ALIAS record in my providers DNS settings, but that didn't work somehow. So I just set an A record to point from www to the IP of my Ghost blog, which worked fine, but I didn't have any SSL then on my www subdomain. Thus, I had to tinker a bit in the nginx configs of Ghost, so that it automatically redirects all www traffic to the apex. I think that that's a pretty safe solution.

Diversifying a lot. Next acquisition will be Ghost(https://ghost.org/) I bet. Similar DNA, fits in the portfolio (If they are trying to match the feature set of Google) and have no VC backing.

For example, if you are in a country where you can accept Stripe and are publishing a newsletter through, Substack or using the Ghost platform, enabling the ability to accept payments is a few clicks away. For those who cannot accept payment with Stripe, well, you are up the creek without a paddle. I do not know about you, but I see that as a barrier to access.
