Maybe https://github.com/stevearc/oil.nvim? Nvim tree and neotree both have floating mode as well which I prefer more.
I think you might be looking for netrw (:Ex brings it up). It is the default file explorer and can be used in many cool ways. There are extensions for it, like (vim-vinegar, and :help netrw is your friend :)

https://github.com/kevinhwang91/rnvimr is pretty good, it opens ranger in a floating terminal and takes care of file renaming and deletion, etc.
